Where are you located and how do I get there?
We're conveniently located in downtown Birmingham just across I-65 from the Innovation District and less than a mile from Railroad Park. Our official address is 810 4th Avenue North, but our parking entrance is at 807 5th Avenue North.
Just take 6th Street North to 5th Avenue North, head one block west and enter the large chain link gate with our signs on it. Continue back towards 4th Avenue, park in the gravel lot, and ring the bell if the door isn't open!
What is Red Mountain Makers?
Red Mountain Makers is the Birmingham area's non profit makerspace! We provide affordable access to tools, equipment, knowledge, and skills you need to create what ever you can think of! Different membership levels give you different levels of access to the space, but our goal is to make as many resources available to as many people as possible!
What are your membership options and what do they get you?
We have two primary levels of membership, Maker and Keyholder. Maker Membership get's you access to the space and all of it's tools during the regularly scheduled, staffed Open Hours. Keyholder Members are provided with a key and security code to have access to the space 24/7. All members get a 10% discount on classes and our online store AND access to the knowledge of a community of 70+ makers! We can help you use anything that is on site, and if there is something new we are going to learn it side-by-side with you!
Can I take a tour before joining?
Absolutely! Were open for tours during any of our open hours. Schedule one here!
Who can become a member?
Anyone! We support artisans, artists, hobbyists, tinkerers, entrepreneurs, DIYers, and anyone just curious about making. No skill or knowledge level required! We require that all members enter at the Maker level to demonstrate they can use our space safely and responsibly. They can then request to be promoted to Keyholder, which is approved by the Board of Directors.
Who about kids and teens?
We are open to ALL AGES, however anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a adult while working in the space.
When are open hours?
Our guaranteed open hours are Tuesdays 6-8pm, Thursdays 6-8pm, Saturdays 2-6pm, and Sundays 4-7pm. However, any keyholder can choose to host hours and open the space at anytime. Members should keep an eye on our discord to see when they do this, or feel free to ask there if anyone plans to open the space when you need it!
What does membership cost?
Maker Membership is $40/month and Keyholder Membership is $80/month. There are discounts available for families of makers, students, seniors, teachers, and first responders. Active memberships can be paused by contacting our treasurer at treasurer@redmountainmakers.org.
Can I give a membership as a gift?
Yes! We offer gift vouchers in $25, $50, and $100 increments which can be redeemed for memberships or classes. We also have one month Maker and Keyholder membership gift vouchers.
Who runs Red Mountain Makers?
Red Mountain Makers is a independent 501(c)3 non profit run by an all volunteer Board of Directors. Our continued operation relies on the hard work and volunteer efforts of the Board and the rest of our amazing members.
Do you teach classes?

Can my child/teen/grandparent take a class?
Probably! Each class has it's own age and ability requirements at the discretion of the instructor. Learn about our classes on our CLASSES PAGE and if you have additional questions reach out to secretary@remountainmakers.org for us to answer them or put you in touch with the instructor!

Can I rent Studio space?
Yes! We have 9 dedicated rental studios for makers or businesses. Four 200 sq ft rooms and five 100 sq ft rooms. Inquire here for more details!
How is Red Mountain Makers funded?
Our membership dues, studio rentals, and class fees provide just enough funds to pay our rent, keep our lights on, and compensate our professional instructors. All facility improvements, outreach events, and new equipment purchases are supported by volunteer labor, grants, and donations. Please consider making a donation to help increase our impact on the Birmingham Community! We are a registered 501(c)3 Non-profit, so all donations are tax deductible. Your support helps us keep member fees low, and therefore more accessible. We plan to soon formalize scholarship programs for both memberships and classes.
