    This class will take place at Independent Presbyterian Church.

    We will open up our stained glass courses with a field trip discussing and showcasing some of the most beautiful and elaborate stained glass  Birmingham has to offer. This field trip will cover modern and historical stained glass crafting, how stained glass is made, and we will also touch on restoration, and the general history of glass.

     Throughout the summer every weekend stained glass classes will be offered starting with beginner courses in the month of June, intermediate classes in the month of July at Red Mountain Makers. And ending in  advanced classes in August. There are No prerequisites required for any of the classes.

    Cutting glass into various shapes and knowing how to use your tools is essential towards creating a glass masterpiece. In this class students will be 

    introduced to the various tools and the proper methods of utilization and handling of glass to successfully and safely cut and solder the pieces together. A little bit of everything will be covered In this class with emphasis focused on cutting glass and how certain colors work better in combination than others. Students will take what they learned and with the tools and supplies provided, construct a stained glass coaster demonstrating what was learned. This is a great class for the beginner or the timid. No previous classes are necessary!

    Students will decorate a clear 7" x 7" piece of glass using colored glass, glass confetti, noodles, stringers, dots, and other compatible components. Their plate will then be fully fused in a kiln and then shaped in the form they choose.

    Plates will be available for pickup 2 weeks after class.

    About the Instructor: Rhandie Weaver is the owner and artist at Blue Dragon Glass. She has been working with glass for over 25 years. She is mostly self taught and loves to share her knowledge of glass. Her work can be seen at The Birmingham Zoo, as she was awarded one of the "Vulcans on Parade" and created "Indigenous Vulcan".  She works with stained glass, sandblast carved glass, fused glass, and mosaics.

    In this class students will be working with small pieces of stained glass to construct a pin backed broach. Students must grind, solder and then fabricate and attach a pin hardware so the piece can be used a a functional piece of jewelry.

    Spend an hour long session with hot glass artist Garrett Pesta of whimsieshotglass to make as much glass art together as you can. From color pickup to shaping and blowing, what comes out is truly your work of art. Items include bowls, vases, flowers, ornaments, etc. No experience required!

    Hour long sessions are open to 1 to 4 people, so come make your own set of one of a kind pieces, or share the hour with friends, family or loved ones!
